Its engine is a Bombardier-Rotax 914, the same engine used in the Stemme S10-VT.
The first flight took place after longer development time on 29 November 2006 whereby the designers placed large importance on reducing noise and vibration. The variants are S6 100 hp, fixed landing gear, S6R 100 hp, retractable landing gear, S6T 115 hp turbocharged engine, fixed landing gear S6RT 115 hp turbocharged engine, retractable landing gear
The first S6(D-KTSA) had its first flight on the 29th of November 2006 at Strausberg Airport. Test pilot was Lothar Dalldorff.
On the 22nd of October 2008, the S6 received the approval of EASA.
Stemme is also developing a UAV based on the S6, the S15.
